DPI Blister Filler: Benchtop

Forming part of 3P innovation’s Discover Range, this technology uses die punches to lightly compress pellets and seal them within a blister strip. Used predominantly for dry powder inhalers (DPIs):

  • Accurate and consistent dose weights throughout the strip.
  • Clean filling & ejection system prevents web contamination, avoiding downstream issues with
    sealing and peel force.
  • Optimised dose compression enhances aerosolisation and maximises the emitted dose,
ensuring reliable production of products that meet the device’s critical quality attributes (CQAs).
  • Compatible with magnesium stearate-based formulations.

How does it work?

Our lab-scale option uses precision-controlled dose weights to minimise product waste during the clinical development process.

    1. Prepped powder is levelled off with a doctor blade.

    2. Upper pin is lowered down towards the dosing plate.

    3. Upper pin meets the powder and partially compacts it into a pellet.

    4. Lower pin is removed, blister strip slides into place.

    5. Powder is pushed into the blister strip.

Scalable for total-lifecycle support

Our fundamental process has been designed with scalability in mind; each system shares the same filling core technology and is scalable from lab to high-speed commercial production. This ensures that performance characteristics observed during early development can be directly replicated at larger scales, eliminating uncertainty often associated with scale-up.
